Our Story

The Burrell Theatre is Truro’s hidden gem in the heart of Cornwall. The theatre produces and receives a diverse mix of theatre, dance, live music and film. With a seating capacity of 200 or a standing capacity of 350, the space is very adaptable to suit the needs of the user.

The theatre was officially opened by Sir Tim Rice in 2002 and went on to be awarded a special commendation by the Cornwall Buildings Group. The Burrell is run by a small but dedicated team and a crew of very experienced theatre practitioners. We have excellent front of house and backstage facilities, and our equipment is second to none for the size of the venue.

We have full disabled access and facilities. When booking your tickets, please inform us of your requirements and we can ensure your needs are met.

The Burrell also has its own theatre company in residence, Bodkin Theatre Company, as well as hosing a range of workshops covering acting, stage combat, and production skills delivered to the students of Truro School.

To say the least, the Burrell Theatre is a very busy and vibrant theatre and is fast becoming one of Cornwall’s favourite multi-purpose venues.
